Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) Program

The Ukiah Adult School, which is part of the Ukiah Unified School District, offers the Vocational Nursing Program as a public service. The three-semester program takes 54 weeks to complete (with a three month summer break). Upon successful completion of the course, graduates receive a certificate of completion and are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Vocational Nurses. Our next application cycle is scheduled to begin - to be announced. 

 

A Licensed Vocational Nurse gives total bedside nursing care, assisting the patient who is being cared for in the hospital, home, skilled nursing facility, doctor's office or other out-patient facilities. When assigned, the LVN may also give medications and treatments.

The program incorporates nursing theory and nursing practice in Lake County and Mendocino County hospitals and other health facilities. Students attend classes and are given instruction and experience in the hospitals, always under the direction of an instructor, for 30 hours a week, Monday through Thursday. Study time requires an additional 10-12 hours per week.

The Nursing faculty are all registered Nurses or Licensed Vocational Nurses and have been approved by the State Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technicians.

Career Opportunities

Although the Adult School does not operate an employment placement service, there are plenty of employment opportunities for graduates in Lake and Mendocino counties.
