Ukiah Adult School offers fee FREE Citizenship class sessions on Monday evenings.
Students are instructed how to properly complete their citizenship applications
(USCIS Form N-400).
Students are taught important events in U.S. History; the Constitution and its background; the organization, powers and duties of federal, state and local governments; American institutions and ideals; the privileges, duties and responsibilities of citizenship.
A class session is held every Monday night for five weeks. A new class session starts on the sixth Monday. Class hours are 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Registration takes place during class.

Heads-up! Changes are here!
- Since October 20, 2025: All N-400 applicant who's citizenship application received by USCIS after October 20, 2025 have to study 128 civics questions instead of the previous 100. Out of the 128 questions, 20 will be part of the test and answering 12 out of the 20 correctly will be a passing score.
- Since October 28, 2025: All N-400 applicant who's citizenship application received by USCIS after October 28, have to submit their payment through the Automated Clearing House (ACH) transaction process.
You will need to submit a USCIS Form G-1650.

For those of you who wish to apply online for citizenship, you will need to set up an account with USCIS and then complete your N-400 online.
I recommend that you come and see me. I'll give you a rough draft of the N-400. You'll fill it out in pencil then I'll check it to make sure that it's done correctly. Then you can complete the form online and pay for it online.

Make sure that your internet is reliable and that you have time to do so. once you start you should go to the end of the process otherwise it may be very frustrating.
You will need to submit your payment via either a major credit card, an ATM card or a prepaid card.
You will not need to submit a USCIS Form G-1650.
You may apply for citizenship if:
A. You have had your Legal Permanent Resident Card (Green card) for five (5) years; you can speak, understand, read and write in English.
- You will need to study all 128 questions and you will need to be able to write up to three sentences and read up to three sentences in English. The officer will ask 20 questions (out of the 128) and you will need to answer at least 12 questions correctly in English to pass that portion of the test
- You have no problems with the law (being on parole or probation is a disqualifying factor)
B. You are married to a US citizen for the last three (3) years, lived with that citizen for the last three (3) years and have had a Legal Permanent Residence Card (Green card) for the last three (3 ) years and you can speak, understand, read and write in English.
- You will need to study all 128 questions and you will need to be able to write up to three sentences and read up to three sentences in English. The officer will ask 20 questions (out of the 128) and you will need to answer at least 12 questions correctly in English to pass that portion of the test.
- You will need to provide USCIS the following information to prove that you qualify for this option: Marriage certificate, Tax transcripts for the last three (3) years), rental or lease agreement, utility bills showing both your name and your significant other's name, etc
- You have no problems with the law. (being on parole or probation is a disqualifying factor)
C. You are at least 50 years old. You have had your Legal Permanent Resident Card for 20 years, then you qualify to do your interview in the language of your choice.
- You will need to study all 128 questions. The officer will ask you 20 questions (out of the 128) and you will need to answer at least 12 questions correctly in your native language to pass that portion of the test.
- The reading and writing part of the interview does not apply.
- You have no problems with the law (being on parole or probation is a disqualifying factor)
D. You are at least 55 years old. You have had your Legal Permanent Resident Card for 15 years, then you qualify to do your interview in the language of your choice.
- You will need to study all 128 questions. The officer will ask you 20 questions (out of the 128) and you will need to answer at least 12 questions correctly in your native language to pass that portion of the test.
- The reading and writing part of the interview does not apply.
- You have no problems with the law (being on parole or probation is a disqualifying factor)
E. You are at least 65 years old. You have had your Legal Permanent Resident Card for 20 years, then you qualify to do your interview in the language of your choice.
- You will need to study only 20 questions (those marked with a little black star). The officer will ask you 10 questions (out of the 20 questions marked with a little black star) you will need to answer at least 6 questions correctly in your native language to pass that portion of the test.
- The reading and writing part of the interview does not apply.
- You have no problems with the law (being on parole or probation is a disqualifying factor)
If you are unable to read and/or write in English, please bring a relative or friend to help you fill out the application.

- Session 1: 01/05/2026 to 02/09/2026
- Session 2: 02/23/2026 to 03/23/2026
- Session 3: 04/13/2026 to 05/11/2026
Each session is 5 Mondays long.
Each class meets from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, Room 1, at Ukiah Adult School.
Registration takes place in class.
